WINNERS!

OK, so it wasn't on national TV or anything, but we're quite chuffed to take home the gold at this weekends 'It's A Knock Out' competition that was on the Prom in Maldon.

The team was James, Ben & Shona from RP plus, Jon (tallescope) Chamberlain, Dan (the shrew) Welham, Alistar (the great blandini) Bland, and Hannah (scatty) Dearham and Mike Farmer (Farmers Ales).

It was a wet, cold and grey morning at the Prom, but as soon as Dan flew off the line in the first round we knew we had a good team and a good chance of lifting some silverware!

Pitted against ten teams, some far more used to physical exercise than others, we came 1st with a score of 98 after eight rounds, a clear 10 points ahead of second place.

Highlights included, Alistair's amazing belly-flop technique on to the slide, JC's excellent throwing (countered by JRF's terrible catching ability), and Shona and Hannah's blind determination despite being very 'tired'!

Will we have to return next year to defend the title? We certainly would!

Google+ Knock Outs

Is it a Plus?
Well, when Google do something they usually go in hard, and it looks like they are putting a lot behind Google+. So, yes we're there too, but will it be like another facebook that no one ever has time to update? Perhaps not as, after our migration to Google Business Apps more than two years ago, when we're using the web interface (like I am now in Bordeaux) it's just there in the top corner.
So, I think this is a wait and see, but as with much social media it's best to be in than to be out...

It's A Knockout!
To celebrate the Jubilee, and have a lot of fun to boot, Reece Productions has entered a team into the It's A Knockout competition on the Prom Park Maldon on Sunday the 3rd June.
The Team Comprises: James, Ben & Shona from RP plus, Jon (tallescope) Chamberlain, Dan (the shrew) Welham, Alistar (the great blandini) Bland, and Hannah (scatty) Dearham.
Pictures to follow...

Why do you do so much?

We've had an extremely busy start to 2012, with lots of diverse projects, from Motorola Solutions kick-off in Vienna with Hart Wilcox, to a video wall installation at Leica's Mayfair store, and becoming facebook developers to help our media customers with facebook advertising.
Some have asked why we have such a diverse offering of services, couldn't we just concentrate on one thing?
Well, to that I answer, an easy NO.
We have a diverse range of skills within our team, and although some of these projects might look disparate, they really are not to us. Our clients ask us to get involved in these projects because they know we will deliver a high level of service. Coupled with this is the nature of what we do, events. We've been delivering events for nearly ten years now, and things have changed considerably. To get the best from modern presentation platforms we have to have a good knowledge of computer platforms, Apple, Windows, Office, Keynote, plus many of the bits of equipment we use run on complex network configurations, so naturally we as a team have had to learn much of these ourselves, and can then re-apply our shared skill set to other types of work.
Even the media side of our business has grown from necessity, we developed our own website from the very start, and now we are using facebook & twitter in new ways, so again it is logical to offer these techniques to clients as a new revenue stream to Reece Productions.
There is another big reason.
It's a lot of FUN! Because of the people we are, we love challenges and hate saying 'I don't know'. A better ethos for us would be 'I can find out, I can learn'.

Still more moaning about radio mics...

Looking for something else, I just found this updated page on JFMG website:
(the page says updated in August 2011, but the bottom table is defiantly new!)

From what I can see, the only guaranteed spectrum to work is CH38 and CH70 after the completion of DSO.

Try as I have, I can’t see how you can use any more than 8 or perhaps 10 systems interference free in CH38 (606-614). Four is the maximum in CH70(863-865).

Everything else may or will be covered in digital broadcasts that will certainly make outdoor use very difficult, and the interleaved spectrum we will have to pay separately for on a short-term license basis.

Finally let me quote JFMG:

“This means that coordinated, exclusive use licenses are no longer be available in Channel 38. Existing licensees will need to convert to the new license and accept an increased risk of interference or move to 'interleaved' spectrum.”

Accept an increased risk of interference, or phone and pay a second fee EVERY-TIME you want to use them?

Thanks a lot. I’ll let clients know that. In fact, I may have to write that on all our radio packs…

So, how can we buy anything new, as they seem to be suggesting they can just move us again without much notice, and this time they are unlikely to want to pay for the old kit that has to be binned?
